Last 2 sessions & First Stock Delivery Expected

Were as the time gone there is only 2 more session left for me before i move home. But allot has been going on in the back ground to prepare for me to be able to do dialysis at home.


Just to recap and what you'll be expecting before you move home.


1. You'll get your bins, 1 big out side bin , 6 small bins & yellow bags
2. Stock, you'll receive your first order this should last you 3,4 weeks.
3. Dialysis machine you'll be getting this when you move from the hospital to home.
4. Chair.  you'll be getting this when you move from the hospital to home.
5. Table
6. Stacking Trolley


Am expecting all my stock tomorrow so I'll be able to update you on how much there is. And what space you'll need for it.

Builders Day 2

The second day the guys just completed the room and did the outside pipe work. They did a very tidy job and i was very please with the work man ship.


This is the finished room, the lino is non slip and i got it from a local flooring shop.

The Builders Day 1

Today the Builders came to make the modifications to the room. The first thing i seen was the new tripswtich in the hall this is the single tripswtich  thats required so that your not on the same box as the rest of the house. The Small box on the left is the new tripswtich.

The room requires a shower tray for the dialysis machine to sit on and as you can see the tray is neat and tidy. The size of the tray is roughly 4ft
by 3ft. I also required a sink in the room.

The Dialysis RO Systems has been put in place you can see it down by the rad it not completed yet. Also the electric sockets on the wall.

Helping yourself before the traning Starts

You can help yourself in so many ways by being proactive before you start your training i was very proactive in learning how to use the other machine and set it up etc.. However the home dialysis machine is a little different then the other machine but its the same concept in setting up. So if nothing else get use to the terminology, and get to know what dialyzer ,bi cart and concentrate your on. Also get to know when your not feeling well and what to do in this case the nurse will advise.

Another useful part is taken yourself off the machine and taken out your own needles. Learn how to do your own wash back and remove you own needles one by one of course. Also learn how to handle on what to do if you clot and if you can't wash back..

Baxter have delivered all my bins there is one big outside bin and i was happy to see it was GREEN and just had a yellow lid. The other bins are inside bins and can be kept in the room until they are full and then placed in the larger outside bin.

1 Large green bin
4 small yellow bins
2 needle bins
1 roll of yellow bags.

Session 3 & 4

Session 3 was a very interesting one for me as one of my needles fell out otherwise knowing as a blowing needle. Now don't panic and that's what i did not do as cool as anything i was able to stop bleeding but luckily the nurse was there and she was able to help me do the recirculation. In the mean time i stopped bleeding and was able to re needle again and get on and get treatment again. You can tell someone all you want on what to do when something happens but when you get first hand experinces at it it's more helpful. But am hope it not happen to me again. However if it does i know what to do.


In session 3 & 4 I've been mainly doing what I've done since session 1 the more you practice on setting up the machine and priming it, entering in the data UF, pump speed, time that better you'll get at it. I also take myself off and remove my own needles one at a time. I have also learnt how to drain the machine and remove all the lines and put sharps in the sharps bin and recycling in recycling bin.


So its now 4 session and i would feel very confident in setting up the machine and priming it and also feel happy to handle the alarms i must stress that the alarms are not like the old gambro  machines.

Wednesday 5^th was my second session.

I washed, weighted and clean the trolley as showed on Monday. I got to line the machine and connect up the bi cart and concentrate to the machine and then prime it. I had to take full monthly bloods today so i was shown how to take the bloods.

I then connected to the machine and then the nurse explained more to me about the machine and the user interface.  This session went well for me, i was very happy with it and that i got to line the machine.

Training

Monday 3^rd was my first session on the new machine.

Session 1

The first thing I was taught how to wash my hands properly and to take my weight important to note to either leave shoes on or take them off but please be consistent. The machine was already prepare for me. I cleaned the trolley and then open my connection and disconnection packs to have them ready.  I was also given proper instruction on how to clean fistula before and after I’ve removed the scab from the button hole.  One thing you’ll learn is that you must follow the rules of clean you fistula it’s your life line when you’re on dialysis so if you follow the nurses instruction you’ll be fine.

I was then showing how to start the machine and get it ready for priming this normally takes about 30 minutes but you’ll be putting in your needles while it’s running through its test and priming.

I then connected myself up and was then showing how to set the UF, Pump speed and Blood Flow and to take my blood pressure before starting. I then started. During the session the nurse when through the User interface with me and showed me what each of the functions are for it can be a bit much on the first day but you’ll soon learn it as there is plenty of time..
